Transforming Water Access

OUR JOURNEY WITH THE NEW BOREHOLE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

At BWT Africa, we pride ourselves on creating innovative packaged water treatment systems that not only provide reliable access to clean water but also offer sustainable solutions to communities facing water scarcity. Recently, we had the privilege of collaborating with a shopping centre in KZN that faced significant challenges due to the lack of a municipal water supply. This project not only highlights our commitment to excellence but also underscores the transformative power of effective water management

The Challenge: A Shopping Centre Without Water

Imagine a bustling shopping centre teeming with activity but lacking a fundamental resource: water. This was the reality for our client, who had been relying on water tankers to supply their needs. The logistics of water delivery were cumbersome and costly, leading to significant operational challenges and expenses. Each tanker brought with it the uncertainty of supply and a hefty price tag, creating an unsustainable situation for the shopping centre’s operations.

A Sustainable Solution

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, our team set to work on designing a tailored borehole water treatment plant. This system was specifically engineered to treat the contaminated borehole water to provide a reliable supply of potable water.

Key Features of the Borehole Water Treatment System
  • Custom Design: Every project we undertake is uniquely designed to meet the specific needs of our clients. The borehole treatment system was crafted to handle the expected water demand of the shopping centre and delivered 150000 L per day.
  • Advanced Filtration Technology: Due to the high total dissolved solids concentration (high salts) the system consists of reverse osmosis and the appropriate pre- and post-treatment processes to protect the membranes, with remineralizing and disinfecting of the treated water.
  • Eco-Friendly Approach: By harnessing local groundwater, we reduced the carbon footprint associated with transporting water via tankers and promotes responsible water usage.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Once operational, the borehole treatment plant drastically reduced the shopping centre’s reliance on costly water deliveries. The initial investment was quickly offset by savings in water procurement, leading to long-term financial benefits
The Installation Process

Our team of experts coordinated the entire installation process, ensuring minimal disruption to the shopping centre’s daily operations. As the system was built and designed for plug-and-play, the installation took 3 days from delivery to a fully operational system.

Collaboration and Community Impact

Throughout the project, we prioritized collaboration, working closely with the shopping centre’s management team to align our goals. This partnership extended beyond just infrastructure; it fostered a sense of community and shared responsibility for water conservation and management.

Once the system was fully operational, the transformation was immediate. The shopping centre now had a consistent, reliable source of water, enhancing customer experience and improving overall operations. No longer reliant on costly tankers, the centre could focus on what mattered most: providing exceptional service to its patrons.

Looking Ahead

This project is just one example of how BWT Africa is committed to solving water access issues across various sectors. We believe that every community and business deserve a sustainable and reliable water source, and we’re excited to continue our mission of designing and building innovative water treatment solutions.
